Demo: AI-generated faces and how to check

This short demonstration shows that fake AI-generated faces can look very real. Learners will compare real and AI-generated faces and practise careful observation before making a judgement.

About the demo: The demo shows two faces at a time. One is a real photograph and the other is AI-generated. Your task is to decide which face is real, then reflect on the clues you used.
Instructions for learners

  2. Look carefully at both faces before choosing.
  3. Notice visual clues such as eyes, teeth, ears, hair, background, jewellery, glasses, lighting, and skin texture.
  4. Write two clues that helped you decide.
  5. After the demo, discuss this question: Can we trust an image only because it looks real?
  6. Use the source-evaluation checklist to decide what you would check next before sharing an image online.
Safety guideline: The goal is media literacy, not embarrassment or fear. Do not create, upload, or share fake images of real people in your school community.
